ABUJA – Optimum FC on Thursday in Abuja defeated Gwarimpa United FC 5-0 in the ongoing 2014 FCT League in a game played at the Area 3 Sports Complex, Garki.

Tony Onowu of Optimum doubled the tally in the 27th minute in a first half, which Optimum clearly dominated.
All efforts made by Gwarimpa defenders to prevent more goals proved abortive as Onowu got his brace and the third goal for his team in the 54th minute of the game.
Habila Hassan and Olaba Wale, stricker and defender, respectively, scored the fourth and fifth goals for the team in the 77th and 84th minute of the game to complete the humiliation.
Gwarimpa players missed two scoring chances; one of them a spot kick which was saved by the keeper.
Tope Bulus, Coach of Optimum FC, was excited after the game, saying his boys played to instruction.
“I am happy because my players played to instruction, we won all the five games, and this is our last match.
“We scored 24 goals in this league, we are now qualified for the knock out stage. I am sure we will make it,” he said.
On his part, Adamu Lamishi, the coach of Gwarimpa, expressed disappointment that he lost the match, though he acknowledged his players did their best.
“In a match there is always a winner and a loser, my boys tried their best. This is my last match, we have six points. We did not qualify for the knock out stage,” he said.
In the third match of day Rodnap FC progressed into the next round of the league after gaining three points by walking over Jadin FC.
Jadin did not show up for the game slated for 2 p.m. at the same venue.
The referees declared the match a `walk over’ after 15 minutes into the regulation time.
