Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Human Rights Activist and former federal lawmaker that represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has commended the directive for the implementation of the Oronsaye Committee Report by the federal government.
Comrade Shehu Sani who described it as a significant step towards cutting the cost of governance and harmonising federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), however warned seriously that care should be taken in implementing that aspect where thousands of Federal Civil servants will lose their jobs.
He gave the warning via his X account (formerly twitter), shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu ordered the implementation that report.
The Kaduna-born politician who took to his X to react said: “The Oronsaye report has gathered dust for over a decade. Its commendable that now it shall see the light of the day. This is a significant step towards cutting the cost of Governance and harmonising federal MDAs. But care should be taken in that aspect where thousands of Federal Civil servants will lose their jobs.”
Sundiata Post recalls that twelve years after the Steve Oronsaye panel submitted its report on restructuring and rationalizing Federal government parastatals and agencies and a white paper issued two years after, President Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council yesterday (Monday) decided to implement the report.
The Report recommended that many agencies with similar and resemblance functions should be scrapped and many others will also be merged to pave way to a leaner government.
Further recall that due to the hardship faced by the citizens and worsening economic crisis, many have advocated the reduction of cost of governance as a means of reducing wastages.
