Makurdi – Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue has directed workers in the state’s ministry of agriculture to ensure strict monitoring of fertiliser distribution.
Ortom gave the directive on Tuesday in Makurdi at a ceremony to flag off fertiliser sales and distribution.
He charged the workers to ensure that the product got to farmers, the targeted end users and not middlemen.
The governor said the commodity would be sold at 30 per cent subsidy, assuring that farmers would be buying the commodity at N4, 000, instead of N5, 750.
The state’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr James Anbua, assured the governor that he would tackle sharp practices related to fertiliser distribution.
Anbua pledged that with support of staff, the ministry would ensure that the commodity got to farmers directly.
He also pledged that the ministry would give Ortom’s administration unalloyed support to for it to succeed.
