ORU WARNS CONTRACTORS AGAINST DELAY, LOW QUALITY JOB

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Steve OruThe Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Steve Oru, on Tuesday warned contractors handling projects for the ministry against low quality jobs and unnecessary delay in projects delivery.
Oru gave the warning while receiving officials of Stegis International Agencies Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling Otueke Skill Acquisition Centre in Ogbia, Bayelsa and the one at Ibeno, Akwa Ibom.
He said that situations where projects lingered without definite period of completion would no longer be condoned by the ministry.
“The contract was awarded almost five years ago and we are just tired of all these ongoing projects that have been ongoing almost at indeterminate period of time.
“We have resolved that now, these projects will not continue to be at the state of ‘ongoing’ again,” he said.[eap_ad_2]
He assured the contractor of Federal Government’s readiness to make funds available to ensure that the projects were completed before November, this year.
The minister urged the contractor never to abandon jobs over lack of funds, saying that such act tended to expose contractors’ incompetence and lack of capacity to handle jobs of high magnitude.
He said that his recent tour to project sites in parts of Niger Delta was to access the scope of work done by the contractors and to ensure that funds released were commensurate with jobs already done.
Earlier, Mr Isaac Abakam, the Chief Executive Officer of Stegis International Agencies Nigeria Limited, blamed the slow pace of work on the projects on unpredictable weather in the region and non-release of funds. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
