BENIN – Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has cautioned politicians against politicising education in the country, urging stakeholders in the sector to provide enabling environment for its growth.
Oshiomhole made the remark at the inauguration of the newly reconstructed Army Children’s School at Isihor near Benin on Friday.
He said that it was the responsibility of all to ensure that enabling environment was provided for children to pursue their dreams of good education.
The governor said that every other issue in the polity could be politicised, education and security issues should not to be politicised.
Oshiomhole said his government decided to assist the military in upgrading the infrastructure in the school so as to benefit from the “red roof revolution’’ of his administration.
[eap_ad_2] He enjoined the teachers to discharge their responsibilities to the children to justify the upgrade of the school.
He said that the enabling environment provided by his government to students in the state accounted for the state to emerged third in the recent West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) result.
He expressed optimism that the state would be second to none in 2015 with its encouraging performance in 2014.
Earlier, Mrs Felly Minimah, President of the Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), described the Edo Government intervention as one of the government quick impact project.
Minimah, who was the special guest of honour at the event, said that the effort of the present administration at repositioning the education sector would not be in vain.
She said that since her assumption of office, the issue of child education had been paramount to her.
She said that if children were educated in a conducive environment, they would be well equipped for the challenges of the world.
Minimah further stressed the need for collective effort of all stakeholders in order to achieve quality education for the children.
She appealed for proper management and protection of the facilities from vandals.
The facilities included three blocks of 12 classrooms, four staff offices and six toilets. (NAN)
