OSOGBO – The Osun State Government is boosting cocoyam production for students’ consumption.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Wale Adedoyin, said on Tuesday that farmers were being encouraged to grow the crop to promote the state’s school feeding programme.
The official spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo.
The feeding programme is tagged: “O’ Meal”.
The commissioner said that the government had since January, 2013 included cocoyam in the feeding programme, having discovered that it was very nutritious.
Adedoyin said that the government was equally boosting production of grains such as rice and maize in order to develop the feeding programme.
He called on the Federal Government to make the Strategic Grains Reserve more functional to supply enough grains to states. (NAN)
