Osun poll: Foundation commends peaceful voting, security personnel’s peaceful conduct

Abuja –  The CLEEN Foundation, a non Governmental Organisation (NGO), has commended the peaceful voting process and professional conduct of police officers deployed for the Osun governorship election.

The foundation gave the commendation in a preliminary statement issued by its Executive Director, Benson Olugbuo, on Saturday in Abuja.

Olugbuo said that the Foundation in collaboration with the Police Service Commission and Kimpact Youth Development Initiative (KDI) deployed over 90 domestic observers for election.

He said that the Foundation was currently coordinating Election Security Support Centers in Osogbo and its three offices in Abuja, Owerri and Lagos.

He added that the foundation Election Situation Rooms received reports from observers deployed across the 30 local government areas of the state.

The executive director said that the foundation observed that some polling units were reported to have opened as early as 7 a.m. with a few incidences of late opening of polling units observed

He also said that the foundation observed multi-agency deployment of security personnel.

“CLEEN observed inter-agency collaboration of security agencies in monitoring the elections. Other commendable observations include: general peaceful voting process and professional conduct on the part of most of the police officers deployed for the elections.

“We commend the electorate, the security officers, observers, political contestants and INEC officials for a peaceful conduct of the voting process so far, and encourage all to sustain the culture, as the collation process is underway.”
