Osogbo – Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun has called on the people of the state to support his administration through developing a heart of true patriotism and benevolence.
This, he said, would help boost the rapid transformation of the state.
Oyetola made the call during the handing over of Miccom House to Osun State University in Ada as part of the 80th birthday activities of Mr Tunde Ponle, an engineer and business mogul.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, described the gesture shown by Ponle as an uncommon act of charity among millions.
” The gesture shown by Ponle was a lesson to many to learn that the country still has people with kind and genuine heart for giving, making the future brighter,” he said.
According to him, the entrepreneurship style of Ponnle, which he adopted in his youth, is a model for many youths seeking ample place and space in a world that is in search of solution to raging socio-economic challenges.
Oyetola appealed to people in the state to follow the footsteps of the notable icon by giving their wealth back to the society.
He, however, urged the university management to make judicious use of the edifice given to the institution.
” Ponle has resolved to bequeath one of the property he spent his youth to acquire, the MicCom House, Ada, to the University of Osun so that we and our posterity can benefit from it.
“Some of us who witnessed this event are likely to take something away from it and join other humanists who will invest their belongings in a better Osun and Nigeria.
“The lesson of this act should not be lost on the university. We must build graduates who are strong in character and learning and understand the tenets of service, patriotism, humanism and personal sacrifice,” Oyetola said.(NAN)
