Lagos – Samuel Ekeoma, President of the Nigeria Para-Badminton Federation on Thursday said that the body would redouble its efforts to enhance the sport in 2016.
Ekeoma told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that it was through such efforts that the sport which was relatively new in the country could thrive.
He said that the non-availability of funds prevented its athletes from participating in two major international competitions during outgoing year.
“The federation will do everything possible to engage our athletes regularly in order to hone their skills and attract more physically-challenged.
“Para-Badminton is new in Nigeria and it can only be popularise through regular competitions to attract more sponsors,” he said.
He appealed to the National Sports Commission (NSC) , corporate organizations and philanthropists to contribute to the growth of the sport through support.

NAN reports that the maiden national Para-Badminton championship was held from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3 to commemorate the United Nations day for persons with disability in Umuahia, Abia.
NAN also reports that 10 states participated in the championship that was sponsored by Moslynwill Global Partners, a nongovernmental organisation. (NAN)
