Benin – The Deputy Governor of Edo, Philip Shaibu, has expressed optimism that partnership between the State Government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), will enhance development of infrastructure in the state.
Shaibu expressed his feelings in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Benin.
He said the optimism was informed by the fact that there was a new leadership in the commission ready to cooperate with the state government.
He said the state suffered some setbacks in the development of infrastructure initiated by the NDDC in the past “because of its poor leadership.’’
NAN reports that the state government recently stopped further execution of NDDC projects in the state due to the shoddy execution of such projects.
He said: “we are disappointed with the way the NDDC distributed and executed jobs in the past.
“We are happy with the new leadership of the NDDC and the state government has insisted that the commission’s programme must be in conformity with the standard of what we have in Edo.
“Anything less than our standard is not acceptable. The leadership is ready to join hands with all the governments in the Niger Delta to make the region viable economically.
