Patrick Doyle criticizes FCT Minister Wike for sitting on “throne” to address Nigerians

Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for sitting on an elaborate, throne-like chair during a media briefing held on Thursday.

The criticism followed the circulation of a video online showing Wike addressing journalists while seated on a large chair with gold trimmings — a seat many compared to a royal throne. The image quickly attracted public attention and sparked widespread discussion.

According to SundiataPost, Doyle expressed concern over Wike’s choice of chair, stating it reflects a troubling mindset among public officials.

He argued that such a display sends the wrong message to citizens, particularly at a time when Nigerians are battling economic hardship. Doyle added that actions like these from political leaders make them appear out of touch with the everyday realities of the people they govern.

He warned that these visible displays of extravagance could further deepen the disconnect between the government and the public.

Posting on Facebook, Doyle wrote, “If this isn’t a throne, I wonder what is. Why on earth would a minister of the Nigerian state mount a throne to address Nigerians? This is a sign of the psychosis afflicting Nigerian political office holders — delusion of grandeur.”
