Kaduna (Kaduna State) – Mr Samuel Aruwan, spokesman for Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, on Monday said eight cattle rustlers were arrested with 159 animals in Lere Local Government Area
He made this known in a statement issued in Kaduna on Monday.
The Operation Yaki Surveillance Patrol Team in conjunction with security operatives arrested the cattle rustlers in various parts of the state
“The rustlers were arrested by Operation Yaki in a joint operation with the Lere Divisional Police Patrol.
“The team swung into action following a distress call that a group of suspected rustlers and animals were migrating from Doka Lere and heading towards Yadin Garu in Lere Local Government Area.
The statement said the rescued animals included 129 cows and 30 sheep.
The statement further said the suspects as well as the recovered animals were handed over to the Divisional Police headquarters.
It further said that preliminary investigation into the arrest was in progress to establish the criminal profile of the suspects for possible prosecution.
It said three suspected cattle rustlers were also arrested with 33 cows by a joint patrol team in Wartsi Piti village.

It said the teams acting on a tip off, acted swiftly and arrested the suspects while in transit.
“Upon interrogation they disclosed three names of their accomplices and efforts has been intensified to arrest them’’, it said.
The statement said other 194 cows were recovered from Auchan in Kubau Local Government area of the state in a joint operation by Operation Yaki Surveillance patrol team and the Divisional Police Patrol Team in Aucha.
“The recovered animals have been handed over to the Zaria Area Command for onward distribution to their owners after satisfying the procedures of the distribution committee”, it said. (NAN)
