Obanikoro had been allegedly involved in the controversial Ekiti State governorship election audio tape, which is now popularly called Ekitigate, and series of petitions have been submitted against him seeking his disqualification.
Despite series of points of order from Senators Bukola Saraki, Gbenga Ashafa and Babajide Omoware, the Senate went ahead to conduct the screening.
This development also saw the Minority Leader, Senator Gorge Akume, omitting Obanikoro’s name from the ministerial list he read at plenary on Wednesday.

Akume had recognised the three others nominees in his speech. The development led to dead silence for about one minute in the Upper Chamber.
