Abuja – The National Working Committee (NWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock over the killing of its Publicity Secretary in Adamawa, Mr Sam Zadock, by gunmen on Tuesday.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, the party called on security agencies in the state conduct full investigation into the incident.
Zadock was among persons that died in the latest sectarian violence involving herdsmen and farmers in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa.
The party said that the investigation was imperative, particularly in the face of rising speculations over the circumstances surrounding his murder.
The party said that Zadock was known for “his patriotism, dedication to national development and pursuit of the revitalization of our repositioned party in that state.
“While we appreciate the efforts of the military in its response leading to the arrest of some persons, we reject any attempt to wave off this killing without an exhaustive investigation by relevant security agencies.”
It added that the report of the investigation must also be made public.
The PDP expressed worry over inability of the Federal Government to ensure a peaceful Nigeria and to provide adequate security for citizens.
“On daily basis, the nation is inundated by news of gruesome killings and un-abating violence across the country with Nigerians being hacked down or abducted by marauders and insurgents.”
It said that government had failed to take decisive steps to stem the ugly tide.
“Gradually, our nation is being turned into a funeral parlour with bloodletting in Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Yobe, Kaduna, Zamfara, Enugu, Kogi, Ebonyi, Edo, Plateau, Nassarawa and other states across the country.
“Indeed, we cannot continue to lose our fine, bright and talented citizens to bandits while those vested with the mandate to protect them are more interested in their 2019 re-election.
“The national leadership of our party, therefore, demand an urgent action by President Muhammad Buhari-led Federal Government to restore peace and end the violence in the land.
“Also, we urge the security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the killing of Zadock.”
The party called on all members in Adamawa and across the country to remain calm, adding that its leadership would continue to engage the security agencies until they got to the root of the matter. (NAN)
