UYO (Sundiata Post) – The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ended its local government campaign rally with the grand finale at Abat, the headquarters of Onna local government of the state.
As the home local government area of its governorship candidate, Udom Emmanuel, the crowd was unprecedented as thousands poured out to the Abat Township Stadium venue of the rally.
The campaign rally which had already taken place in 30 local government areas of the state was witnessed by who-is-who in the politics of Akwa Ibom state, including past and current political office holders, captains of industry, the organized labour, student bodies, youth and women organizations, party faithfuls and the political class.
In his welcome address, the PDP chapter chairman of Onna, Mr Okon William Umanah expressed the joy of Onna people and party men to all Akwa Ibom people for the extraordinary love and solidarity they have shown their son in his quest to become their governor. He assured the PDP of the total support of Onna people describing the mega rally as proof of that confidence in the party.
Also speaking, the Council chairman, Hon. Ufot Sunday Akpan thanked Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio for not only putting his feet down to ensure power shifts to Eket Senatorial District, but for backing an illustrious Onna son in the person of Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel as his imminent successor. expressed gratitude on behalf of his people and said Onna will vote en masse for PDP.
In his speech, Senator Bob maintained that Uyo Senatorial District has already taken its turn in the governorship of Akwa Ibom and that any person from Uyo zone seeking to be governor is only a dreamer . He charged all Akwa Ibom people and Onna in particular to take their chance and vote Udom Emmanuel into power for equity and justice, arguing that he is the best.
Speaking also, Chief Jerry Okpo, member Akwa Ibom State caucus of the PDP, and former South South national officer of the Party, aligned with Senator Effiong Bob by thanking other Senatorial Districts for conceding the governorship to Eket. Chief Okpo who is a prominent Oro son and leader disclosed that, Oro nation stakeholders have met and taken a decision to reject playing second fiddle to any candidate from any other Senatorial zone and have undertaken to vote their son from the same Senatorial District, Deacon Emmanuel, arguing that Oron Nation and Onna share a lot in common. Chief Okpo said Oro nation will not be deceived by people who are manipulating them for selfish objectives without wishing them well, and declared PDP as the way to go.
Governor Godswill Akpabio described Udom Emmanuel as a man who was prepared and equipped by God for Akwa ibom state to take over from him. The governor said that after seeking the face of God, Udom Emmanuel became the revelation and that, the massive crowd that trooped out to demonstrate their love is proof, Udom is an act of God.
