Benin – A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Mr Berry Negerese, has advised the party’s leadership in Edo to provide a level playing field for aspirants at its forthcoming primaries in the state.
Negerese, who is the National Auditor of the party in South-South, gave the advice while speaking with Journalists on Wednesday in Benin.
He warned that the national executive of the party would not tolerate any act of impunity by its leaders in Edo during the primaries.
“I want to, as an individual and a party man, advise leaders to embrace all members, especially governorship aspirants ahead of the governorship elections.
“As we are trying to do away with godfatherism, I advise that the state leadership should resist the attempt to foist any person on the people.
“ Let the mighty come down and reach out to all aggrieved members, treat all members as a family and ensure that the leadership provides a level-playing field for all aspirants at the primaries.
“Edo State is traditionally a PDP state. And, if we must return it to the people, we must allow the people make their choices by allowing for a free, fair and credible primaries,’’ he said.
The national officer, who described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as “a deceitful party whose antics are now known to the people’’, said that the party “must be uprooted from Edo’’.
“I know that any PDP candidate who emerges from a free, fair and credible primary will defeat any Goliath that APC will parade, because the people now know the truth.
“And, if PDP leadership picks the most popular and acceptable candidate, the main election is almost as good as won because the battle will be between the people and the federal might.
“Just like what happened in Bayelsa, the will of the people will always prevail over the federal might,’’ he said. (NAN
