ABUJA – Security operatives, mainly policemen, have begun screening of delegates before entry into the main arena of the Eagle Square, venue of the PDP’s National Convention for the ratification of President Goodluck Jonathan’s endorsement by all strata of the party.
Calmness pervaded the area as the security operatives applied metal detecting gadgets in screening delegates who formed a long queue.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in spite of the queue, delegates from across the federation waited patiently for their turn.
Traders of branded items such as shirts, caps, key holders and hand fans, took advantage of the 3,073 delegates attending the convention to make brisk business.
Security helicopter was also seen hovering over the area, while other security personnel such as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were deployed to the area to forestall possible breach of security.
The delegates are expected to rectify the positions of Alhaji Adamu Mu`azu and President Goodluck Jonathan as the party`s National Chairman and sole presidential candidate for the 2015 election.
The positions of Prof. Wale Oladipo, PDP National Secretary, and Mr Wole Olayanju are also expected to be rectified by the delegates through a yes or no vote.
It would be recalled that President Jonathan had earlier, been endorsed by all organs of the PDP as its sole presidential candidate for the 2015 presidential election.
Their ratification by delegates’ votes, according to Mr Olisa Metuh, PDP National Publicity Secretary, is in line with the provision of the party`s constitution (NAN)
