Makurdi- Food hawkers, eateries and beer parlor operators are enjoying trade boom following the influx of delegates and party supporters in Makurdi for the PDP governorship primaries.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many of the drinking joints and eateries on Monday in Makurdi had their supplies exhausted and had placed orders for restocking.
At the Treaties eatery, near Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, situated in the heart of Makurdi, food had already finished while the cooks were making frantic efforts to prepare more for those that were still waiting.
At another eatery on Ankpa Quarters Junction, it was learnt that food, comprising rice and pounded yam, had finished as early as 3 p.m. while customers had to settle for alcoholic beverages while waiting for the cooks to prepare fresh food.
At the IBB square, venue for the accreditation of delegates, food hawkers , were seen counting wades of Naira notes after finishing their wares.
Across section of the delegates said they had to hire motorbikes to go distant places to buy food and cool drinks to “cool off” after staying in the scorching heat for hours waiting to be accredited.
Mrs Tabitha Angbian, a food vendor, thanked God for the opportunity of making such good sales.
“On an ordinary day, this container of rice would have lasted till evening while on bad days much of it would have remained unsold.
” I thank God that today I exhausted all my supplies and in good time too; now I will go home to prepare against tomorrow; I understand the delegates will be staying overnight.”
Traffic had also built up on most Makurdi streets, leading to gridlock in some places. (NAN)
