Obasanjo on Feb. 16, announced that he was quitting politics to become a statesman.
Okporu said the NGO, was a Volunteer of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the distribution Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state.
“Obasanjo is entitled to one vote and I do not believe that his leaving PDP will hurt the ruling party in the general elections.
“Definitely, the former president has no power to subject the entire nation to follow his suit; Nigeria today is not like the Nigeria of yesterday.
“The level that democracy has taken us today cannot be negotiated with any citizen; we have come of age and this is not time for clapping for any person.
“Of course, we are in the era of democracy; everybody is entitled to his choice, but my advice to the people is to stand up for good governance and Nigeria will be better.
“You can join any political party but we must know that the future of Nigeria is in the hands of all citizens of this country,” he said.
On collection of PVCs, Okporu said that it was necessary for the electorate to have their PVCs to enable them vote for candidate of their choice.
According to him, Bayelsa is working hard in ensuring that the cards are distributed before the general elections slated for March 28 and April 11, respectively. (NAN)
