ABUJA – The Universal Peace Federation in Nigeria (UPF), an NGO, on Thursday said peace within families would promote peaceful coexistence in the country.
Dr Paddy Njoku, Chairman of the association, disclosed this at the annual general meeting of Ambassador for Peace in Abuja.
Njoku attributed the insurgency in the country to lack of peace in the homes of the hoodlums, adding that any child that is brought up well would not indulge himself in such activities.
He urged parents to engage their children and wards in discussions aimed at moving their families forward.
According to him, it would go a long in helping the child to grow and become a good citizen that would assist the nation in its developmental process. [eap_ad_1] He appealed to all Nigerians to be ambassadors of peace in conflict prevention, adding that there cannot be progress without peace.
“No harmony without peace and peace start from self through the families, state before it goes to the entire nation; if you want peace in the nation you must have peace in yourself and neighbours.
“Like if you prevent mosquito from biting you then you may not go to hospital for malaria, likewise conflict,’’ he said.
He explained that the meeting was convened to commemorate the International Day of Peace, which is celebrated annually on Sept. 21.
Njoku said that UPF is an organisation geared toward peace building and conflict prevention, adding that the meeting was geared toward educating its members on rekindling peace building.
According to him, it is to re-educate its members on the need for continuity of conflict prevention.
“If you prevent conflicts then you may get to the ultimate ends of wars,’’ he said. (NAN)
