Abubakar said that teachers should be strict and efficient.
She said ”if it is only 10 per cent of students that passed their examinations, only those students should be allowed to go to the next level, others should wait and study well before proceeding.”
A teacher who pleaded anonymity told NAN that the problem could be associated with culture, saying that some female students were not serious with their education.
“They always believe that after secondary school they would marry,’’ the teacher said and added that some parents pleaded with teachers to help their children pass and finish early.
Some stakeholders in Osun expressed satisfaction with the ongoing education reformation processes in secondary schools in the state.
They said the process had upgraded the education system and made the state competitive.
Alabi Omobisi, a teacher at Osogbo High School, said the reformation process in the educational sector in Osun had turned around the sector from decay to a competitive sector.
Bisi said: “The state government has done a lot in rebuilding and restructuring of the system through good hands, adequate infrastructural facilities, and intellectual properties.’
‘’The number of student in some of the public schools across Osun, outreached the available classes but after the reformation process, which had transformed the sector, things have taken a new dimension.’’
Bisi lauded the Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs Titilaoye Ilori, for her relentless effort toward taking education in the state to its recent position.
‘’I think the deputy governor deserves to be praised, with the look of things in the education sector in Osun.
‘’I want to tell you that Because of the transformation in the public schools going on, private schools have woken up to ensure that they are not left behind,’’ she said.
The Imo Commissioner for Education, Dr Uche Ejiogu was of the opinion that students have no reason to perform badly in their exams as government at all levels was trying their best to ensure a qualitative education for students. (NAN)
