Katsina – Residents of Katsina State have expressed concern over the persistent power outage being experienced the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state has been in darkness for the past six days in spite of the increase in the electricity tariff.
Some of the residents said the situation had affected their life pattern because of the intense heat being experienced in most parts of the state.
Malam Abdullahi Nuhu, the head of a household, said that the entire members of his family were forced to sleep outside their rooms because of the heat.
Nuhu said that people now resorted to storing pottable water in local clay pot to get cool water due to the power outage.
NAN reports that small business operators, particularly those that can not afford to use generator, are also affected by the power outage.
Malam Ayuba Tasiu, a trader in soft drinks in Katsina, lamented that power outage had halted his business for the past six days.
Tasiu, therefore, called on the Kano distribution company to restore normal power supply for the overall socio-economic development.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Mr Mohammed Kandi, said that the problem was sequel to the decrease in the power supply to the state following vandalism of equipment.
Kandi, said that KEDCO today received only 55 mega watts of electricity for Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
He said the problem was beyond its control as the company was working to improve power supply in the affected states, calling on consumers to be patient.(NAN).
