In a series of tweets on his verified page on Tuesday, Obi emphasized that the Dangote Refinery’s significance is purely economic, not political.
“Dangote Refinery Should Be Fully Supported, Not Vilified,” he tweeted. “The recent conflicts between Dangote Industries and some government agencies are deeply troubling. This issue transcends political affiliations and personal grievances. It is fundamentally about Nigeria’s economy, future, and the well-being of its citizens.”
Highlighting the potential economic benefits, Obi stressed, “The refinery has the potential to generate approximately $21 billion in annual revenue and create over 100,000 jobs, with numerous additional positive impacts on the economy.”
He urged swift resolution of disputes and called on government agencies to provide necessary support for the refinery’s smooth launch and operation.
Obi praised Aliko Dangote’s contributions, describing him as a national and African symbol of patriotism and impactful entrepreneurship. He underscored Dangote’s role in Nigeria’s industrialization across various sectors despite challenges.
“In the interest of Nigeria and its citizens, as well as Africans at large, I urge the Federal Government and its agencies to provide Dangote Industries, especially the refinery, with all necessary support,” Obi concluded.
His statements coincide with challenges faced by Aliko Dangote from government authorities and local crude oil producers as Nigeria anticipates the commencement of petrol production by the refinery in August.
