Malumfashi (Katsina State) – A philanthropist, Alhaji Muntari Sagir, has donated 100 wheel chairs to some physically challenged students in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, to ease their movement to school.
Sagir made this donation at a reception organised in his honour by Holi Youths Initiative Forum in Malumfashi on Friday.
“Touching the lives of physically challenged persons should be prioritised by groups and individuals, so as to ease their pains and open up opportunities for them to excel in life,” he said.
He explained that 10 wheel chairs would go to primary and secondary school students in Gangarawa ward while the rest would be distributed across the 12 political wards of the Local Government Area.
Sagir said the gesture was also to complement the efforts of the Katsina State Government in providing succour to rural communities.
He advised public office holders, politicians and contractors to invest in the welfare of the people and the development of their communities.
Sagir also advised communities in the area to organise town hall meetings, where political office holders representing them would be invited to give account of their stewardship.
He expressed the belief that such initiative would help build cordial relationship, reduce bitterness targeted at public officers and enhance development.
Earlier, the chairman of the forum, Mallam Nazifi Surajo, said the reception was organised to encourage the philanthropist not to relent in his support to the communities in the area.
He noted that apart from empowering people in the community, Sagir had also renovated three mosques and an Islamic school in Gangarawa.
Surajo said the forum was established in 2013 to undertake voluntary services in order to improve the lives of the people in the area.
The chairman of the occasion and former acting chairman of Malumfashi Local Government, Alhaji Yakubu Wada, called on Gov. Aminu Masari to rehabilitate Malumfashi township roads.
Wada called on the business community in the area to set up industries that would create employment opportunities for the youth.
He lauded Masari for the dredging of Mashigi dam, efforts to rehabilitate Malumfashi water scheme , erosion control and roads projects, as well as the renovation of schools in the area.
