Manila – Government troops killed two Islamic militants when they bombed their camp in the southern Philippines, a regional military commander said on Wednesday.
Troops bombarded the camp Tuesday in the Abu Sayyaf rebels’ area in Patikul town on Jolo Island, about 1,000 kilometres south of Manila, Col. Alan Arrojado said.
He said the troops later found two dead guerrillas in the camp of a dozen thatched huts and were pursuing the others who fled.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Last week a military assault in nearby Indanan town killed no fewer than 15 guerrillas, Arrojado said.
The Abu Sayyaf is the smallest but most violent group in the southern Philippines. It is responsible for deadly terrorist attacks in the country and several high profile kidnappings-for-ransom cases. (dpa/NAN)
