Osogbo -Dr Oyebode Kayode, a medical practitioner in Osun, has warned women to be careful and conscious of breast cancer.
Kayode gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency if Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Osogbo.
He described breast cancer as the most invasive cancer among elderly women, capable of causing death, if not given the right medical attention.
He said that most breast cancer were not hereditary, but caused by human negligence.
“I want to let you know that most cancers in women are not hereditary as pronounced but are virtually caused by human negligence,” Kayode said.
According to him, “Some risk factors can impact on a woman’s likelihood of developing breast cancer.”
He said the older a woman gets, the higher her risk of developing breast cancer, especially after menopause.
Kayode also described age as a risk factor which he said, over 80 per cent of all female breast cancers occur among women between the age of 40 years and 50 years above.
He advised women to eat balance diet, engage in regular breastfeeding of their babies, do physical exercise and also avoid any intake of alcohol which are the causes of breast cancer.
The medical expert warned against unprescribed medications and also local herbs as ways of treatment of breast cancer, warning that they have sent many women to their early grave.
Kayode, however, cautioned women to report any sign of breast disease or cancer to a closed medical hospital or a health consultant for appropriate medical directive and treatment. (NAN)
