BAUCHI – The Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Bauchi chapter, Dr Muhammad Yusuf, says the association will provide free healthcare services on Oct. 25.
Briefing newsmen on Saturday, the physician said the gesture would be for residents as part of the 2014 annual Physicians Week in Bauchi.
According to him, the exercise will be conducted at Bununu community in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, with 30 doctors from various departments.
Yusuf said that part of the annual event was also sensitisation of the public on Ebola Virus Disease, its causes, prevention as well as other humanitarian services.
“We will have medical caravan at Bununu, where we intend to bring more than 30 doctors of different specialities to render health care services.
“The services will include, clinic consultations, drug dispensation, screenings as well as counselling and testing,’’ he said.
Yusuf said in spite of the fact that the Ebola Virus had been successfully combated in Nigeria, it was possible for the disease to be re-introduced especially with air travels.
He said that more enlightenment programmes would be designed to ensure that the disease was completely out of the country.
“We appeal to the members of the public to remain watchful over the Ebola threat globally and observe safety advice.
“The virus has been successfully combated in Nigeria but it is still not time for celebration as it is still a big issue in other countries with better health care facilities than Nigeria.
“With air travel, it is possible for the virus to be re-introduced into the country,’’ he explained.
Yusuf commended the efforts of the various tiers of Government for making the country proud over the Ebola issue and commiserated with the families of those that lost their lives during the process.
