Pilgrimage: Guides commend Nigerian pilgrims in Israel

Tiberias (Nazareth)-  Pilgrims Tour Guides in Israel on Sunday commended Nigerian pilgrims’ dedication to prayers during the pilgrimage.

In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Tiberias, near Nazareth, the guides said that Nigerians’ passion for prayers was exciting.

One of the guides to Bauchi State contingents, Mrs Smadar Ben-Beruch, described Nigerians’ commitment to prayer while on pilgrimage as a demonstration of a strong faith in Jesus Christ.

“One of the things I love about Nigerian pilgrims is how they pray, sometimes, they pray quietly, at times with a loud voice and occasionally, they shake and tremble.

`I have never seen people pray with such passion, I feel much closer to God whenever I am among Nigerians.

Another guide, Mr Arnon Namias, said that Nigerian pilgrims were unique, particularly in their approach to prayer sessions.

“I have been with many pilgrims who are more interested on sites-seeing, unlike Nigerians, who are usually very serious about prayers.

“Sometimes we walk in harsh weather conditions; snow and cold, but they do not care, they are always praying,’’ he said.

In his view on the exercise, Mr Ishaya Malaika, the Executive Secretary, Bauchi State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, told NAN that the pilgrimage had been exciting.

“Sunday is our sixth day in the holy land and so far, we have visited quite a number of holy sites and on Monday, we will visit river Jordan.

“I tell you these tour has revived our faith and I strongly believe that the experience will make us better Christians,’’ Malaika said.

The contingents also visited Nazareth, believed to be the traditional home of Joseph and Mary, the parents of Jesus and Cana, Galilee, where Jesus did the first miracle.

They also visited Mount Tabor — Mount of Transfiguration – where, according to the Bible, Peter, James and John prayed with Jesus Christ.(NAN)
