LAGOS – Dr Leke Pitan, a governorship aspirant in Lagos State, on Tuesday said that he would deliver people-oriented programmes with special attention to grassroots development, if elected in 2015.
Pitan, a former Commissioner for Health in the state, made the promise at a public declaration on his ambition to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The event held at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos.
Highlighting his eight-point proposed programme, Pitan said that he would strictly adhere to the party’s manifesto.
He said that if he was able to win the party ticket and achieve his dream, he would build on the achievements of the present administration.
“My vision is to be an instrument of change, which will guarantee true freedom as a result of entrenched democracy that ensures that the common Nigerian is given hope, and his purpose in life attained,” he said.
The aspirant said that he would be totally committed to implementing programmes that would ensure that the life of an average Lagos resident would improve.
On the economy, he said that his administration would provide opportunities for the common man to form the mainstay of the daily economy of the state.
“There will be mass housing schemes developed in appropriate areas of the state to provide affordable but conducive accommodation for the poor,” Pitan said.
He said that poverty alleviation programmes would be continued in line with the party’s policy, adding that fresh ideas would evolve to reduce the level of unemployment.
Pitan promised that facilities in schools would be improved upon and more schools constructed, adding that no students in public schools would sit on the floor to be taught.
“Basic and senior secondary education will be free, and no child will be out of school because of lack of funds,” he said.
Pitan also said that there would be free health care delivery to ensure that no resident would die needlessly nor languish in pain for lack of facilities or money.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event tagged “Lagos Prays as Dr Leke Pitan Declares” was witnessed by religious leaders, APC chieftains, the party members and well wishers.
There were prayers for the aspirant’s success and peaceful conduct of elections in Nigeria. (NAN)
