Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The troubled area in Bassa LGA of Plateau State on Wednesday recorded some relative calm as troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), captured some suspects and killed some assailants linked to the wanton murder of over 54 persons.

A statement sent to our correspondent on Thursday indicated that a community identified as Teegbe village in Bassa LGA came under attack but was met with strong resistance by troops of OPSH.

The statement signed by the Spokesman of the Military Task Force, Major Samson Zhakom, informed that one of the assailants was neutralised while two others were arrested.

According to Zhakom: “Acting upon a distress call, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene, made contact with the attackers who fled towards an adjourning high-ground, and neutralised one of the assailants during a gun duel. Further exploitation led to the arrest of 2 individuals who are currently undergoing interrogation.

“Additionally, on 22 April 2025, troops of Sector 2 OPSH conducted a stop and search operation along Katnan- Buratali road, Kadarko District in Wase LGA of Plateau State. During the operation, troops arrested 3 suspected armed robbers.

“The suspects were arrested in possession of 1 fabricated pistol, and brought to custody for interrogation. During the interrogation, suspects confessed to have been operating alongside other gang members”, he said.

The statement added that the captured suspects volunteered to lead the military to their hideout where more arms were recovered.

“Following the interrogation, the suspects volunteered to lead troops to their hideout to recover more weapons and arrest other gang members.

“However, while leading troops to the hideout, suspects attempted to disarm the troops in order to escape and were immediately neutralised”, Zhakom said.
