Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The Joint Military Task Force in Plateau State, codenamed Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), on Thursday explained how it tracked and arrested two suspects linked to the kidnapped and murder of Rev. Father, Sylvester Okechukwu at Tachira village in Kaura local government area (LGA), of Kaduna State.
It says the operation was executed by troops of Sector 7 under its command.
In a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Jos, Spokesman for the Task Force, Major Samson Zhakom, informed journalists that interrogation of the suspects are still ongoing, adding that their confessions will lead to further syndicates linked to the crime.
According to him: “The suspects were arrested on 25th March 2025 following a raid on the prime suspect’s hideout located at Ruga settlement in Warsa-Piti village in Lere LGA of Kaduna State.
“During preliminary investigation, the prime suspect, Pate Yau, 33 year-old confessed to have been contracted by one Douglas Henry living in the same house with the slain priest to kidnap him.
“Troops in a follow-up operation arrested Douglas Henry at Agwan Sariki Tachira in Kaura LGA of the State. The arrested suspects are in custody undergoing further interrogation”, Zhakom said.
The Task Force boasted that criminals cannot hide forever as troops will work 24 hours to ensure that the area under its control is free from crime.
