Plateau State House Of Assembly Impeaches Deputy Speaker Gagdi

Jos (Sundiata Post) — The Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yusuf Babayo Gagdi, has been removed from office.

Gagdi, who was elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)  to represent Kantana Constituency of Plateau State, later defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

He was removed from office on Tuesday by 18 out of the 24 members in an impeachment notice moved by the House Majority Leader, Henry Yunkwap.

Gagdi, according to the Majority Leader, was removed, following a vote of no confidence passed against him by the members at Tuesday’s sitting.

The verification of the signatures of the legislators, who signed the impeachment, was carried out by the Clerk of the House, Ayuba Gongu.

Gagdi was immediately replaced by Sale Yipmong, a member from Dengi Constituency.

Commenting on his impeachment in an interview with journalists, shortly after Tuesday sitting, Gagdi said, in as much as the action was not linked to any fraud, he was happy.

He added that his removal will not cause any disaffection as he will continue to exercise his duties to the members of his constituency.

He also expressed his belief that the action was done in good faith.

Speaking on his election, the new Deputy Speaker pledged to work for the progress of not only the legislature, but the entire state.
