Jos – Prof Mathew Sule, the new Executive Chairman of Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board ( SUBEB), said the state was poised to address the noticeable shortage of teachers in its primary schools.
Sule addressed its members of staff on Tuesday in Jos, and said the deficiency was palpable and had affected the standard of education in the state.
According to him, this has influenced the rate of out of school children in the state from one per cent in 2013 to two per cent in 2014 /2015 session.
“This implies that the board has to engage in sensitising and mobilising parents and guardians to understand the importance of education, “he explained.

Besides boosting the staff strength, he said training programs would be organised for staff of SUBEB and the teachers in the system to reposition them to deliver.
“ I enjoin you to partner with me to restore the past glory of public schools in Plateau; we want to make the public primary school outstanding for all public officials to bring their wards, “ he said.
Mr Joseph Mallum, the Director, Personnel Management, also promised that the staff of the board would partner with the new Chairman to improve the value of education in the state.
He noted that apart from the deficiency in the number of primary school teachers, most of the pupils still study in makeshift accommodations due to insufficient classrooms. (NAN)
