Ado-Ekiti – The police, on Monday, arraigned an 18-year-old man, Abdulkareem Saibu, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged house breaking and stealing.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of house breaking and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 24, at about 2:30 pm at Olorunda Zone 5 in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the defendant jumped through the fence of one Jemisaye Ojo, entered the house of the complainant and stole one stabilizer, valued at N22,000, two generator blocks, valued at N18,000 and two alternators, valued at N30,000.
According to Apata, the offences contravene Sections 249, 412 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He, however, asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
Awosika, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 23, for hearing.
