LAGOS – The police on Wednesday arraigned a 29-year-old man, Lukman Animashaun, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ court in Lagos for being in possession of 589 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Animashaun, who resides at No. 12a Itire Road, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of disobedience to law and breach of public peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Okoi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 20 at 7 a.m. at Itire Primary School, Lagos.
He said “Animashaun was apprehended by the police within the premises of Itire Primary School, Lagos, following a tip-off by residents in the area.
“He could not give tenable explanation as to how he came about the 589 permanent voter cards in his possession and all belong to different individuals.’’
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 22 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty and in her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, granted thim bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He then adjourned the matter until Jan. 12 for mention.(NAN
