Abeokuta – The police on Friday arraigned 34 students of the Federal University of Agriculture, (FUUNAB) Abeokuta, in an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for conspiracy and unlawful assembly.
They were arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful assembly riot and malicious damage.contrary to sections 516, 443, 70, 71 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun 2006.
Prosecutor Sunday Eigbejiala told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on Aug. 18 at the school campus in Abeokuta.
Eigbejiala said that the accused persons conspired among themselves and maliciously damage Osiele Police van by setting fire on the vehicle.
He said that the crises broke out when the police opened the road blocked by the the students.
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oriyomi Shofowora, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Shofowora said that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and produce evidence of one year tax payment from the Ogun Government.
She said that the sureties must be parents or guardians of the accused persons and their addresses should be verified by the court.
She adjourned the case till Sept. 29 for hearing. (NAN)
