BENIN – The Police in Benin, Edo State on Friday arraigned five members of Edo State House of Assembly in an Oredo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting Mr. Razaq Momoh, a member of the house.
The accused are: the Majority Leader , Mr Philip Shaibu ( APC-Etsako West 2), Sunday Aghedo (APC-Ovia South-West), Eboise Emmanuel, Promise Ogiso, and Ernest Arasomwan.
The prosecutor, ASP. Samuel Ogah , had told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on Oct. 7, at legislators’ quarters, Benin.
Ogah said the five accused persons unlawfully assaulted and caused grievous harm on Momoh.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Code.
The accused persons, however, denied committing the offence.
Chief Magistrate Peter Edo-Asemota, granted the accused persons bail on self recognition in the sum of N200, 000 each, with a surety in like sum.
He said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to Oct. 29 for continuation of hearing. (NAN)
