ABUJA – The police on Wednesday arraigned five recreational park workers in a Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja charged with criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and cheating.
The accused are Elijah Ezechi, 30, Daniel Ayoga, 29, Marian Melekwe, 26, Sylvester Ubeke and Joseph Mbata, 29, all of them work at Resort Park, Maitama, Abuja.
They were alleged to have conspired and presented previous Purchase Order Service (POS) receipts of drinks as part of the park’s new sales.
The prosecutor, Sgt Emmanuel Adiukwu, told the court that on Dec. 19, Patrick Ebhodgbe of SSS quarters, Jikwoyi, Abuja, reported the matter at Maitama Police Station, Abuja, on behalf of Mrs Enoma Ubong of the Resort Park.
Adiukwu said that the accused persons conspired and presented the previous POS receipts of drinks amounting to N154,000 as part of the current sales.
The prosecutor added that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 97, 314 and 322 of the Penal Code.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and their Counsel, Mr Ernest Olenyi, prayed the court to grant bail to his clients.
Olenyi said the accused persons were first offenders and would not jump bail if granted.
The Magistrate, Mr Aliyu Shafa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 each and one surety each in the like sum.
He ordered that the surety must be a person of reliable means of livelihood and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the matter until Feb. 24 for further hearing. (NAN)
