Kaduna – The Police Command in Kaduna on Tuesday said it had arraigned 51 street gang members, popularly known as `Yan Sara-Suka’ for terrorising communities.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that the arrest followed massive raid of the gangs’ hideouts across the state.
Abubakar also said that the command arraigned 34 motorcyclists for violating the ban on commercial motorcycle operation in the state.
He said the areas raided between Oct. 21 and Oct. 28 were Tudun Wada, Unguwar Rimi, Unguwar Sunusi, Kabala Costian and Rigasa in the Kaduna Metropolis.
Abubakar said 21 suspects were arraigned for criminal conspiracy and terrorism, 20 for being in possession of hard drugs and 10 for terrorism and culpable homicide.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
The spokesman said the arrest of the suspects was facilitated by the cooperation of the communities in Kaduna metropolis.
He said that 34 motorcyclist were arrested between Oct. 10 and Oct. 27, while 31 motorcycles were recovered from them.
Abubakar said the command was identifying credible youth organisation to develop strategy on crime control and community policing.
“Clampdown on miscreant will continue until crime reduces to zero level in the state,’’ he said.
The spokesman said the arrest of the suspects was facilitated by the cooperation of the communities in Kaduna metropolis.
He commend the youths in the state for cooperating with security operatives in fighting crime in the state.
“Kaduna is now very calm, and we need the cooperation of the general public to make the state safer for all.
Abubakar appealed to the general public to be law abiding and continue to support the police and other security agencies to discharge their duties more effectively.(NAN)
