Ibadan – The police on Friday arraigned a 60-year-oldman, Akande Ganiyu , who allegedly received five stolen cows, worth N1.3 million in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court.
The police charged Ganiyu, whose address was not given, with theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that the defendant in March, at about 6 a.m., received stolen five cow valued at N1.3million at Akinyele area, Ibadan.
Adegbite alleged that Ganiyu received the stolen cows from one Ibrahim Adamu knowing same to have been stolen from the cow’s original owner .
The matter was reported by the complainant, Magaji Hamisu, on Aug. 9, at about 10 a.m.
at Akinyele Police Station, Ibadan.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate O.A. Enilolobo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Enilolobo adjourned the matter until Sept . 30, for mention.
