Lagos – The Police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned a 25-year-old driver, Ifeanyi Okoye, for alleged theft of his employer’s truck batteries and N118,000.
Okoye, who resides at Ajegunle area of Apapa, Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in April, along Wharf Road, Apapa, Lagos.
Inedu said that the defendant stole two batteries and money from the complainant, Mr Obinna Oguh.
“The defendant absconded with the batteries and the money the complainant gave him to deliver to a customer.
“When the driver did not come to work the following day, he became worried and decided to call him.
“The complainant said that all efforts he made to reach the defendant proved abortive,” he said.
Inedu said that the complainant reported the case to the police and the defendant was traced to his apartment, where he was arrested.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes three years imprisonment for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mr T.O. Babalola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until June 3.
