Lagos – The police on Tuesday arraigned a fake cleric, Moruf Oyedokun, 32, in an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos for allegedly swindling one one Miss Fausat Tijani, of N600,000 for “ spiritual purification”.
The police charged, charged the accused who lives on Adenigbigbe Street Ketu, before Magistrate Mrs E. Kubeinje on two counts of felony to wit obtaining money under false pretense and stealing.
The Police prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 11 at Ojajuni street, Owode, Orile in Mile 12 area of Lagos.
Ihiehie, told the court that the accused collected the money from Tijani with a promise to perform “spiritual purification” on her for her to enable her travel abroad.
Ihiehie said the accused collected money on various occasions .
The offence, he said, is punishable under sections 314 and 287 (1)of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
After the charges were read to him, the accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje admitted the accused to bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum, who must be gainfully employed.
She adjourned the case until Feb. 5, 2019 for further hearing.
