Abuja – The police on Wednesday arraigned a 25-year-old maid, Mercy Adie at the Gudu Upper Area Court charged with theft of her boss’s jewellery and the sum of five pounds.
The accused person, who resides at Kabayi, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, is standing trial on one-count charge of theft by servant.
The prosecutor, Augustin Urom, told the court that one Marita Nwafor of Lobito Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, reported the matter at the Asokoro police station on Oct. 26.
He said the complainant gave her car for cleaning at Summerset Hotel but discovered later that her gold necklace and pendant valued at N120, 000, white gold valued at N180,000 and five pounds cash (equivalent to N1,750) were stolen.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
According to him, police investigations revealed that the accused stole the items and she confessed to giving the stolen items to an unknown prophet.
He added that the accused gave the stolen items to the said prophet to make quick fortune for her, noting that that the offence contravened Section 289 of the penal code.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty and the Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted him bail in the sum of N3 million with one surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Kagarko said the prosecutor must also know the residence of the surety and adjourned the case until Jan. 21 for hearing. (NAN)
