ABEOKUTA – The police on Wednesday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Martins Onasanya, in an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court for stabbing his friend over money dispute.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the accused, charged with assault, committed the offence on Oct. 31 at Isale-Ijeun in Abeokuta.

Eigbejiale said that the accused stabbed his friend, Saheed Balogun, with a broken bottle on his neck and shoulder.

He said the accused owed Balogun some amount of money and when he heard that the accused was sick, he went to his house to pay him a visit.

“The wife of the accused sighted him coming and told her husband, they both rushed out and accosted him, thinking that he came for his money and an argument ensued.

“The accused and his wife beat and stabbed Balogun, inflicting him with serious injuries on his neck and shoulder,’’ the prosecutor said.

He added that the offence contravened sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Anthony Araba, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Feb. 5, 2015 for further hearing. (NAN)
