Ado-Ekiti – The police on Wednesday arraigned a 35-year-old man, Maku Gbenga, in an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of Indian hemp.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of possession of Indian hemp.
The Prosecutor, Insp Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 2 at about 9:30pm at Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti.
She alleged that the defendant was arrested for unlawfully being in possession of one kilogramme of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 430 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
She pleaded with the court for an adjournment to enable her study the case file and assemble her witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty and his counsel, Mr Gbenga Bejide, urged the court to grant his client bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Omolola Akosile, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Aug. 2 for hearing.
