Police Arraign Man, 39, Over Alleged Theft

Ado-Ekiti, – The police on Wednesday, arraigned a 39-year-old man, Adetimehin Adekunle, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing.

The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a three-count charge that borders on stealing.

The police prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov.22 at about 2:00 a.m. at Bojuru Area, Oke Alafia Adebayo Street in Ado-Ekiti.

Adeniyi alleged that the defendant stole a basket chair valued at N30,000 belonging to one Ademilua Seun.

He alleged that the defendant stole basket pepper and cow skin valued at N42,000 belonging to one Olaoluwa Adeogun.

He also alleged that the defendant stole 20 tubers of yam valued at N20,000 belonging to one Olayiwola Esther.

According to him, the offences contravened Section 295 Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case untill Dec.15 for hearing.(NAN)
