OSOGBO – The police on Wednesday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Afolabi Taiwo, in an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for theft, malicious damage and breach of public peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Solomon Oladele, told the court that the accused committed the offence at Surulere Community in Oke Balee area of Osogbo.
Oladele alleged that the accused organised thugs in the neighbourhood and forcibly gained entrance into Josephine Nursery and primary school, owned by one Alao Oladapo.
He said the accused and the thugs maliciously damaged a wall fence valued at about N65, 000, before gaining entrance and causing pandemonium in the compound.
“The accused and his thugs carted away the sum of N200, 000 from the complainant’s Pathfinder jeep during the raid of the school,’’ Oladele said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 390, 4451, and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. 11 Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and his counsel, Mr Ibukun Adeniran, prayed the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, granted the request in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
Aluko said the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, and provide evidence of tax payment, as well as two passport photographs, attached with an affidavit of means.
The magistrate said the addresses of the sureties should be verified, and adjourned the case till Dec. 16 for mention. (NAN)
