Police arraign man for alleged reckless driving

Sango-Ota (Ogun) – The police on Tuesday arraigned one Rasaq Salawu, 50, in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun, for alleged reckless driving.

The accused of no known address is standing trial on a two-count charge of reckless and dangerous driving.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Mustapha Abdulkareem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 24 at about 3 p.m. at Sango-Ota garage, along Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway.

Mustapha said that the accused drove a commercial bus with registration No.JJJ 361XN carelessly without considering other road users.

The prosecutor said that Mustapha in the process caused a serious injury to one Sogo Oyebode , now lying critically ill at Baba Tawa Orthopaedic  Hospital, Ota.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 17 of Road Traffic Amendment Laws of Ogun State,2006.

The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Abimbola, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till April 21 for hearing. (NAN).
