Police arraign man,32, for allegedly perverting justice

Lagos – An Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Thursday granted bail to 32-year-old man, Ifashina Atoba, for allegedly aiding the escape of a suspect.

Atoba was arraigned on a two-count charge of obstructing cause of justice and escape.

The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with a surety in like sum.

Fashola said that the surety must present evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos state government.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Femi Adeleye, told the court that the accused had on Oct .4, at 3 p.m. at Dauda Ilo, Imakiyo Police Post, Ejigbo, perverted the cause of justice.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]

“The accused did obstruct and pervert the cause of justice by aiding a suspect to escape from arrest.

“He did assist one Bola Adekunle, now at large, to escape the cause of justice as against the agreement to present him in court,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 93 (3) and 414 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The case was adjourned till Nov. 30, for mention. (NAN)
