Ilorin – The Police in Kwara say they have arrested some armed robbery suspects following recent attacks in some communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, on Monday in Ilorin confirmed the arrest of the suspects but did not specify the number arrested.
He said that further investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
A source however, told NAN that a special strike force, the F-SARS and MOPOL, effected the arrest.
“The policemen were drafted to the Wildlife National Park, Niger State, where the robbers took refuge and there was an exchange of gunfire.
“The police were able to overpower them and in the process arrested some of the armed robbers.
“The gang leader, Tukur, was arrested alongside two of his gang members following intelligence report.’’
The source said that items recovered from them included three AK 47 rifles, eight 8.62mm live ammunition, one army camouflage uniform, one cutlass, phones and small bags containing charms
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gang had on Jan. 22 invaded Tungan Maje, Nuku and Woro communities among others, where more than four men of the Vigilance Group of Nigeria were killed.
The gang, led by 35-year-old Tukur Ibrahim, also known as “commander”, reportedly invaded the village armed with sophisticated and dangerous weapons and dispossessed the residents of mobile phones, electronics, cows, goats and food items.
The robbers were said to have also inflicted injuries of varying degrees on the victims.(NAN)
